K1-MET participated in the event “WERTStoff Kunststoff – Wie nachhaltig ist energetische Verwertung” on 12 November 2025 at the Andorf Technology School (Upper Austria). The event was organized by the Business Upper Austria and the Upper Austrian Kunststoff-Cluster in cooperation with the Andorf Technology School.

Plastics are indispensable in modern life, with applications across medical technology, electronics, construction, mobility, and packaging. They play a key role in reducing resource consumption of energy, water, and raw materials. At the end of their lifecycle, plastics can be recycled, recovered for energy, or otherwise reused.

Johannes Rieger on behalf of K1-MET held a presentation entitled “Recycling of waste plastics: secondary raw material for a sustainable iron and steel production” and took part in a panel discussion. During the presentation, insights into the currently running Austrian funded project NatMatSave30! were given, which focuses on the use of granulated blast furnace slag as secondary mineral filler for plastic products.

Great thanks to the organizing team for this interesting event with many fruitful discussions.

The project NatMatSave30! receives funding from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Innovation, Mobility, and Infrastructure, represented by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG project no. 922969 / FO999922969).
