K1-MET participated in a very interesting and effective Workshop within the frame of the COMET K1-MET Project 1.5 dedicated to the “i-clean” model development.

This thermodynamic and kinetic approach should be able to predict the steel cleanness after tapping from the Basic Oxygen Furnace and after the Ladle Furnace (Ruhrstahl-Heraeus steel degassing at a later stage of the project).

Very important topics were discussed, such as temperature modelling in secondary metallurgy, CFD modelling of fluid flows in ladles, refractory wear in ladles or the characterization of steel cleanness by analytics.

Luckily, all project partners were on board (voestalpine, Primetals Technologies Austria GmbH, RHI Magnesita, Montanuniversitaet Leoben).

Many thanks to all colleagues, who organized the Workshop, and who did excellent presentations stimulating a lot of important discussions to go for the next step of steel cleanness prediction “i-clean”.
