Three Days of Scientific Exchange at the University of Oulu

Michael Zarl from K1-MET participated in a three-day technical exchange with the Process Metallurgy Team at the University of Oulu.

The visit offered the opportunity to discuss current research activities and strengthen ongoing collaborations in the field of sustainable steelmaking. This included joint work on an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) experiment using H2-DRI pellets, updates on the H2PlasmaRed activities in Oulu, technical discussions on K1-MET’s planned upgrade of the pilot-HPSR facility in Donawitz, Austria, and future collaboration opportunities. In addition, Michael Zarl gave a lecture on green steelmaking within the course “Prosessiteollisuuden tulevaisuuden haasteet” (“Future Challenges of Process Industry”).

We thank the colleagues at the University of Oulu for the constructive discussions and look forward to continuing our collaboration in research and pushing the boundaries of sustainable steelmaking together.
