K1-MET at the “HELIOS NWE6 Network Event”

  • Delft, Netherlands
  • 5–8 October 2026

Mohammad Jafarzadeh and Cameron Quick from K1-MET participated in the HELIOS NWE6 network event, which included visits to TU Delft and Tata Steel Netherlands.

Mohammad Jafarzadeh presented his latest research progress as Doctoral Candidate 5 (DC5) within the HELIOS project. His presentation, “Hydrogen Plasma-based Reduction of Chromite/Chromium Oxide for Stainless Steel Production”, explored the thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of reducing Cr2O3, synthetic chromite and chromite ore using the Hydrogen Plasma Smelting Reduction (HPSR) process.

The research investigates the potential of HPSR to contribute to the decarbonisation of stainless steel production. The presentation also examined the influence of hydrogen input and the role of conventional and alternative fluxes.
