Mohammad Jafarzadeh presented his work at the 4th Green Steel World Conference in Duesseldorf. The research is conducted within the HELIOS Doctoral Network, which focuses on innovative hydrogen-based technologies for green steel production.
His oral presentation, entitled “The Impact of Hydrogen Flow Rate on the Reduction Efficiency of Cr2O3 during Hydrogen Plasma Smelting Reduction (HPSR) Process”, examined the influence of hydrogen flow rates on the reduction efficiency of chromium oxide.
The study investigated the thermodynamic and operational aspects of hydrogen plasma reduction, evaluating reactor performance under different hydrogen flow rates. Key parameters included the reduction degree, hydrogen utilisation, metallisation degree, power input and arc stability. Experimental results were supported by metallographic observations and process characterisation.
The findings provide insights into the potential of hydrogen plasma-based chromium production and its contribution to the decarbonisation of the ferrochrome and stainless steel industries.
