K1-MET at the 17th Conference on Modelling of Casting, Welding, and Advanced Solidification Processes (MCWASP)

  • Winchester, UK
  • 7–12 June 2026

K1-MET contributed to MCWASP 2026 with an oral presentation and a poster presentation showcasing advanced modelling approaches for metallurgical processes.

In the oral presentation “Simulation of Solidification and Remelting of Thermal Accretion (Mushroom) on AOD Tuyere”, Hadi Barati presented a CFD-based model for simulating the formation and remelting of thermal accretions on AOD tuyeres. The work provides valuable insights into the development of these protective layers and their impact on tuyere performance and lifetime in pyrometallurgical applications.

In the poster presentation “Flow-Driven Deposition of Solid Inclusions and Deposit Network Formation on Refractory Walls”, Hadi Barati introduced research on the microscopic mechanisms behind nozzle clogging in continuous casting. Using a coupled CFD–DEM approach, the study investigates how alumina inclusions interact, adhere, and form early deposits on refractory surfaces under turbulent flow conditions.
