Nina Plankensteiner presented her research at the 11th IUPAC International Conference on Green Chemistry (ICGC).
Her presentation focuses on CO2 electrolysis using real industrial CO2 captured from an integrated steel mill. The study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of amine-based CO2 capture with a TRL 6 pilot-scale electrolysis unit to produce CO for reuse in the steel industry.
The results highlight the potential of this technology for industrial CCU value chains, achieving up to 1 t CO2/day conversion with 80–90% selectivity to CO. A further step towards closing carbon cycles in the steel industry.
