The 12^th Scientific Exchange Day of the K1-MET programme was held at the Graz University of Technology (Rechbauerstrasse 12, 8010 Graz) on Wednesday, 12 April 2023 (9.00 am – 14.30 pm). The Scientific Exchange Day (SED) is an annual held conference, which brings together researchers and industrial partners of the K1-MET programme for discussion and networking. With an overall number of nearly 110 participants this year, the event was well attended again.

The main goal of this annual event is to present current research activities and results within the COMET K1-MET programme and to stimulate the interactions between the scientific and the company partners of K1-MET.

The SED 2023 was dedicated to the success stories of our four Research Areas (one contribution per Area) summarizing latest research highlights. Ass. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Valentina Colla (Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa, Italy) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ruediger Deike (University Duisburg-Essen, Germany), both members of K1-MET’s Scientific Advisory Board, were the session chairs containing the following presentations:

• Dr. Elizaveta Cheremisina (K1-MET GmbH): “Liquid slag properties density, surface tension, and viscosity of silicate-rich slags measured by non-conventional and conventional methods” (Contribution from Area 1)
• Dr. Nathalie Gruber (Montanuniversitaet Leoben): “Effect of SiC and/or antioxidants on the melting behavior of a mold powder” (Contribution from Area 2)
• Dr. Christoph Spijker (Montanuniversitaet Leoben): “Energetic optimization” (Contribution from Area 3)
• Xiaomeng Zhang, M. Sc. (K1-MET GmbH): “Inclusion removal with a focus on particle separation at the steel/slag interface” (Contribution from Area 4)

Schedule: The 13^th Scientific Exchange Day shall take place in April 2023 at the voestalpine Stahl GmbH.
